Interviews of Summer and Winter Olympics

In this entry you can see two interviews about the Winter Olympics and one about the Summer Olympics. You will see the point of view of different people we interviewed.

WINTER INTERVIEWS
Interview to Diana Iturralde
1. Do you think that Winter Olympics should be done? Why or Why not?
Yes, because it is entertaining. There aren’t usually many sport events around this time of the year around the world and this is a good encouragement for people to still be active. I don’t see a reason why not to have Winter Olympics.

2. Many people complain because not all countries can attend the Winter Olympics because of their weather conditions. Do you think this is a good argument to stop doing the winter games?
No. Although your country may not be participating, I think Winter Olympics are still really fun to watch and learn about these sports too. It is good that at least other countries have the initiative to do it.

3. What would you prefer: attend a Winter Olympic or a Summer Olympic? Why?
In my opinion, Summer Olympics are more fun than Winter Olympics and I would love to attend to one. But I am also curious about Winter Olympics and I think it would be really fun and a different experience to attend to them too, even though I don’t love winter weather.

4. Do you know something about the Winter Olympics?
Not a lot and that is why I am curious about it and would like to know more.

Interview to George McConnell
1.
Do you think that Winter Olympics should be done? Why or Why not?
Yes, Winter Olympics should be held because it allows for a wide variety of winter time sports to be performed.

2. Many people complain because not all countries can attend the Winter Olympics because of their weather conditions. Do you think this is a good argument to stop doing the winter games?
This is a poor argument because technology now exists that can allow these weather challenged countries to find other ways to train for these specific events. Also, where there is a will there is a way most definitely applies to this. Look at the Jamaicans and their bobsled team.

3. What would you prefer, attend a Winter Olympic or a Summer Olympic? Why?
I would prefer to attend both the Winter Olympics and the Summer Olympics. I would watch events at both competitions. If I were to attend as an athlete I’d probably prefer Summer Olympics only because I’d compete in running or crew.

4. Do you know something about the Winter Olympics? If so, what?
Yes... I know that the Winter Olympics are held every four years, but that they are held two years after the Summer Olympics or two years before the Summer Olympics.
SUMMER INTERVIEW
Interview to Stephen Watkins
1. Which do you like better winter or summer Olympics?

I enjoy the summer Olympics more than the winter Olympics.

2. Do you play any sports that are played in the summer Olympics?
Yes, I play soccer, basketball and volleyball.

3. What sports do you like to watch other than the ones you practice?
I really like to watch ping-pong, shooting and running because they are exiting.

4. Do you think winter Olympics should be eliminated since not every country is able to participate?
Yes because not every country in the world can participate and it is supposed to be a worldwide event.

5. Do you think that any sports should be added to the summer Olympics?
Yes, traditional sports like golf and rugby.

Editorials

Summer Olypmpic Games Editorial

The Summer Olympic Games is an event that occurs every four years in the chosen city. The next Summer Games will be in London in 2012. These games started in Greece in 1904. Male athletes were able to participate and females weren't allowed. Now females are allowed to participate.

The Winter Olympics can't be practiced all over the world like the Summer Olympics. This excludes most of the countries of the world because they don't have snow, that's why the Summer Olympics have more athletes that participate in the event. The summer Olympics have lots of sporting events and the Wniter Olympics have less sports. All the nordic countries can participate in the Winter Olmpics and Argentina but the rest of the countries have to be excluded from this Winter Games because they don't have snow. In the Summer Games every country can participate.

I think the Winter Olympics should be eliminated because they exclude many countries that can't participate.

Winter Olympic Games Editorial

The Winter Olympic Games are a very polemic topic, and are discussed all around the world. In my opinion, the countries that have the opportunities should be able to compete in the games in which they are good at. They should be able to do activities they appreciate and use on an every day basis.

Many people that usually live in countries that cant compete because of climate, say they shouldn’t be done because not all places have the same conditions. These same people complain that northern countries have advantages because they have better climatic situations for practicing. I think that this is not a good enough excuse because nowadays there is enough technology for weather disadvantaged countries to compete and practice. For example, Jamaica which is a caribbean country, won the bobsled competition in the winter olympics.

Overall, the Olympic Games have been held since 1924 every four years. Before the Winter Olympic Games were held, some winter games took place in the Summer Olympics such as ice hockey and figure skating, so technically, winter activities have been held for more than a century. The next winter games will be on Russia in 2010, in the northern hemisphere again.
Summer Olympic Games are known in the entire world for their extended history of hundreds of years. That is one of the reasons why many people value them much more than Winter Olympics.

It’s much easier for everyone to practice a summer game because the majority of countries have the chance to practice all of these games. Meantime the winter games is a much complex competition because you need special climate conditions to practice any sport but in my opinion they are more contain more enthusiasm.

History and Facts of Winter Olympics

Winter activities have been held in Olympic Games for a little more than a century, as they first took place in the London Summer Olympic Games with events such as ice hockey and figure skating. Although the games were quite different, they still belonged to the Summer Olympics. Only since 1924 has there been an edition exclusively of Winter Olympic Games. In the modern day, people discuss if there is to be an edition of Winter Olympiads. The reason for this is that some countries don’t have the opportunity to do the games due to their climatic condition. The Winter Olympic Games are done every four years. These games are done in ice or snow and they are alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, and ice hockey. This winter games are held since 1924. During that past years, more games have been added to the Olympics such as luge, freestyle skiing and short track speed skating and they are now part of the Olympics. Before 1924, ice hokey and figure skating were part of the Summer Olympics. Chamonix, France was the first Olympic game was done. Although Winter Olympics are very interesting and important for some countries, people sometimes say that should no be made because many countries are not part of it, for the reason that they don’t have snow. Other times, people say that some countries have more advantages than others because they have better conditions to practice.
